synopsis:
This book follows the youth of famed writer James Mcbride and his mothers life , Ruth Mcbride. James is a black male with a host of brothers and sisters, but he doesn't really stand out among them because he is not the smartest, the loudest, the oldest, or the youngest he is what people usually refer to as the unforgotten child. James is a black kid ,growing up in saint albans queens during the rise of the crack age, with a white mother and ample siblings, When James only role model, his step father, dies he rebels and gets into all type of criminal activity. James comes to maturity in the pages right before the readers eyes. This book is a story of acceptance of another world that James is so far from but yet so close to.



Assessment:
The text the color of water is a empowering book, it makes its readers think about what they are doing in their every day lives. It shows people that their is another way of living life other than being a deviant. This book has inspired the readers of it to make a change in their life for the better. Color of Water is a book where the main character comes to the realization that he is not just living for his self but he is living for all the people before him that sacrificed something for him to be alive. This book affects the reader in the way that it makes the reader take the initiative to take control of their life. It changes people thinking because it makes people think about the people that came before them.
